This is not by any means a butt ugly cabinet. It is quite well done (the same piano as Virginia's if you saw the pic she posted a couple of weeks ago). It's just that for me, I usually go with a very simple classic grand piano look.

I keep going back to the dealer to play the piano in the hopes of trying to talk myself out of liking it so much but I always leave with a great big smile

I guess it doesn't hurt to wait for the next batch to come in but there is also the risk that the next batch will not include a piano that meets my expectations of tone that this one does.

I guess one could have worse dilemma's though.
If it boiled down to Chippendale vs. plain case, but the finish was acceptable, I think I'd go ahead and take the fancy case-work if the piano sang to me.

This one seems to have the right tone and touch for you. If I wanted mahogany anyway, I don't think I'd let cabriole (sp?) legs stop me.

Ax,

would you pass on this one?

You hit the nail on the head, the tone and touch are there, the cabinet is in a beautiful polished mahogany (my preferred finish of choice). It really just comes down to legs and some inlays on the side of the piano to simulate the Chippendales of the early 1990's.

*ouch* I rather liked the look of our 182 Empire, sorry that you feel it's "ugly". That was a bit uncalled for.

If there's one thing I don't like on piano it's Chippendale legs, so it's a good thing that mine doesn't have them. To each their own.

sonata960,

Works1 was referring this THIS particular Schimmel 213 (Art Case):

<img src="http://www.schimmel-piano.de/images/OA-02.JPG" width=400>

To answer tritone's question to me: I find that particular Schimmel art case acceptable.

But I will pass on the two below:

Oh!! Um, he/she has a very very valid point.

I sort of assumed he was referencing mine, since I had posted recently and hadn't noticed any reference to the art case...

I should say I didn't notice the link in the post (I see it now)

Sorry again to have taken offense!

Ax,

I like the Schimmel too. It matches the decor of our house with kids' toys strewn everywhere (except of course the piano room). The beaded one is quite nice too.

yippie MMmmmmm. Candy. Yum.

Check out this piano:
With all the talk of Del's lean design, I kind of like this Besbrode piano. Makes my upright look like a Volvo 240

As Axtremus noted, I was referring to the piano that was linked to tritone's post. (You can see it in the subsequent post by Axtremus who attached the full blown picture).

The Schimmel 182 Empire is quite nice looking and well done smile along with the quality of a Schimmel!
