I really have tried searching here and on Google and can't find my answer. Might be using the wrong search criteria.

I can't figure out how long the run was on this series. I'm very interested in this digital piano at one of our local stores. They said they sold it new three years ago and took it back on their "trade up" policy. It looks pristine and I like sound far above the others I saw at the same price point. I don't want to leave the impression I believe they are being less than truthful, but I wouldn't mind validating.

I think they still make the HP-203. When I stopped in at the local dealer, he gave me a brochure that compared the HP-201, 203 and 207.

Out of curiosity, what's the price they're quoting you on it?

Thanks Morodiene! When I looked on Roland's web site, I couldn't find this anywhere. They quoted me $1200.00 total which includes the taxes, delivery, set-up, the bench, and taking away my 650 pound monster piano. It includes a warranty and a 100% trade-up value for the next three years. I am one of those folks who had to ask people to play for me so I could listen to the sounds. I did not have one particular person following me around. Twice I have been in and three different folks played for me. In the end, the store owner set the price, of course.

That sounds like a reasonable price, if you like the piano, I'd say go for it!

This is a model from 1996. Over 10 years old!
The price is to high in my opinion.

Peace,

Hi Richard,

I think that is when the run started and the price does sound high if it was sold in 1996. I think the production run was for a number of years. They said they sold it brand new three years ago. It looks and sounds wonderful. I'm going to go ahead with it. It isn't loaded up with do-dahs (for lack of a more professional word) but I believe it will meet my needs as an adult re-learner who is short on space and people willing to help move heavy pianos from one spot to the other:)

I got a quote from the store on the hp203, and they said $1995, but I think I can talk them down to $1800 if I pay cash. I was toying with a KR-103, which looks nicer with the LCD display and the ivory feel keys, but the touch isn't as good, and they quoted me $2295 for it. It's a good price, but more than I think I'm willing to spend for ivory feel keys. So for gadgets I think the hp203 is wanting, but as far as emulating a piano, it sounds as though the hp203 is much better for the money.

I do agree that the quality of this instrument is great, even if the sound is a bit outdated.

Best regards,

In my opinion you're really being taken here.
This is apparently an old digital, maybe
10 yrs., which is ancient in the fast-moving
digital piano world. Such digital is worth
only about $300 to $400, if that. The bench and
delivery is not significant, because they
should be doing that free anyway with any digital
they sold. They're willing to cart off your
acoustic--which you should be keeping as
a complement to the digital--because it's
apparently still good, and they can sell
it for significant change. This is the kind
of deal dealers dream of.

Thanks ok:) Richard is right - the HP 230 was produced between 1996 -1998. I went straight to the source - duh, Roland. It was not their entry level model which made it about a 3000.00ish piano at the time. I can't say why the store sat on the stock so long, however I do know there was a period when the original owner died and the kids and grandkids took the helm. I'm very pleased with it and the sound. Did I over pay - ya probably, but probably not be an extremely excessive amount.

Well, if you are satisfied, then that's all that matters. Although I do feel bad for steering you wrong. frown I agree with Gyro on this, that is wasn't really worth that much, but on the bright side, Rolands are good instruments and so it is at least a quality instrument, if outdated technologically speaking.
