In the movie RAY, Jamie Foxx (playing Ray Charles) was in a club sitting at the piano and was waiting on his backup singers to practice. He played a short excerpt from a famous classical piece. Then stopped and practiced with his group. I recognize the piece it sounds "dark" but I don`t know the name of it or who it`s by... BACH comes to mind but I`m not sure. Can anyone tell me what song it is??? I would really like to get my hands on the sheet music so I can play it.

Thank You in advance for helping.

"Are you new to classical music or the piano?

LOL... I'm new to classical music. I know just a little but I'm not fully educated on classical music.

I started playing when I was 12 yrs old. A music teacher heard me playing a song one day and asked me how I knew that song... I told her that I learned it by ear. She was impressed and gave me a scholarship and took me on as a piano student. I played under her direction for about half a year. I quit playing piano for a long while. (Just playing around on and off)

I'm now 25 and can't ignore my passion for the piano. I started playing piano again since the beginning of this year. I heard the moonlight sonate song when I watched "Ray" for the first time on DVD and I had to get my hands on the sheet music so I could play it! smile I've already started on it and I just love this famous piece.

Absolutely Loved It!!!!! I didn't think it would be that good. I gave it a shot just because I'm a fan of Ray Charles and I was very impressed with the movie. I love his attitude about music and his uplifting shining spirit. I wish I could smile as much as he did. I haven't seen a picture of him that he didn't have a smile on his face.

You didn't ask me, but I thought it was great. Foxx's mannerisms seemed right on target, and it seems to me it would be VERY easy to for a less skilled actor to have his performance degenerate into a caricature of a unique personality instead of an homage to him.

Jamie Foxx Rocked, Chris didn't.

I thought it was a great film and I recommended it to any musician simply for it's messages. It is important for aspiring artists to understand how draining certain industries can be, you have to be sharp, you have to be serious. Ray Charles is a great example of a musician who came from nothing had so much going against him from his eyesight to his race and yet he changed the way we listen to music forever.

I could watch the movie over and over and not get tired of it! I love it that much! I especially like to watch the short extra feature on the DVD of Ray Charles and Jamie playing the piano together.

JJ, that'll make me go rent the DVD, but I wasn't aware it was even OUT yet.

An aside to to the "Moonlight Sonata" in RAY. Did anyone see "Collateral" starring Tom Cruise and Jamie Fox? Some of the cab scenes in that movie have a jazzed up version of a famous classical piece playing in the background. Did anyone see/hear that? Talk about a great music overlap. I think the song was "Air" but not quite sure. Would love to hear if anyone else caught that. Great movie too by the way.
