Hello everyone,
I would greatly appreciate your help in appraising an antique piano that I own. The instrument is marked "Ant. Petrof" and is equipped with traditional Viennese mechanics. I believe it is quite old, probably from the early 20th century, but I do not know the exact year of manufacture.
Here are some details:
Serial number: I will try to find it.
Photos: See attachment (overall view, keyboard, and internal mechanism)
I am considering selling this instrument and would like to get a rough estimate of its current market value – either for local sale or for international collectors. If anyone has knowledge of similar Petrof instruments or experience with pianos with Viennese mechanical systems, I would greatly appreciate your input.
Thank you in advance for your time and expertise!
Best regards,
Jana

Hi Jana,

I didn’t see any photos of the inside of your piano (harp, strings, hammers, action, etc.). Has this piano ever been professionally restored? I believe there are some 1930’s pre-war Petrof grands that are highly sought after, but no idea about this vintage. It is possible that a knowledgeable technician in your country would know more about its approximate value. For an international sale, if there’s a high historic value, some buyers might expect restoration work to have been completed first.

I think I see similar pianos to yours on the Petrof Museum’s website, so that might be a good sign: muzeumpetrof.com

Wow, it is very difficult to appraise pianos this old. I would call collectors.

It's probably a bit older than you think. I would guess 1870-1890. As for value it's impossible to say. It's a niche market for these instruments. You may find someone who wants to pay a lot for it, or you may find it hard to sell.

It reminds me of a Bösendorfer from the same period.
