I did a new research study:

9/10 piano tuners have at least one screw loose. 6/10 piano tuners have 14 screws loose. 1/10 piano tuners have every screw loose.

That's assuming an awful lot of screws. Some of us have different fasteners... like bolts... in our neck. (Or are those spark plugs? LOL!) Most have a collection of nails as well, some of which may be in very used condition.

What's worse, I was born in 1980, so not only are they loose, they're a confounding mix of Phillips and slotted...

And they think they are metric, but are not sure.

Customer called with a Young Chang piano. I asked her if she was mistaken and maybe it is actually an Old Chang. I tried to tighten one of my brain screws so I wouldn’t say this to her, but it appears the screw was stripped.

I found a photo of the famous piano tuner A.B. Normal’s brain. It was donated to science. Most people don’t know they made a movie called Young Frankenstein about the brain.

Sometimes when a client has helpfully asked "Now, can I get you anything?", I've been unable to stop myself replying "A life. Can you get me a life please"......

Another response I've used to the question "Can I get you anything" is "Fame wealth and happiness....." One client, with a slight smile, said "Later...."

There was one home that I tuned in, nice grand piano, older gentleman, nice house, very large dog, a Great Dane / Black Lab mix. I remember while tuning, the dog came to see me several times and would put his giant head in my lap awaiting pets. And I always loved dogs like that so he got petted, ears rubbed, all that stuff. Well, the owner realized what was happening. And after about the third time of the dog doing this, he came around the corner with an ornery smile on his face and said, "Another 2 minutes of that and he's gonna show you where the family silver is."

I have to think hard to remember what I had for supper last night but I remember that from 30+ years ago... smile
