Dear All,

Has anyone tried the Perfection Piano Care Kit that is advertised on the right hand side of this page (scroll to the bottom)? I am considering getting a set for my pianos, which are both satin ebony (Lacquer?). Just wanted to know if anyone's had good results with this product.

Thanks,

Never personally been impressed with Meguiar's car care waxes, so I wouldn't have high hopes for this.

The one Meguiar's product which does impress is their cotton/microfibre polishing cloth though. Awesome.

I think the idea of "piano care kits" is unnecessary. With a modern poly finish, there's rarely a reason to apply a cleaner and no reason to apply a wax or oil. However you do need a good cloth, and that cloth needs to be CLEAN (no dust or dirt in it) and unable to scratch. I use a common 3M microfiber cloth sold for cleaning computer screens. I got mine at Office Depot.

If stronger cleaning is needed, I get a little mildly soapy water on the spot using a separate dampened clean, soft cloth.

If one gets fine scratches into the finish, one can then move to polishes, and Meguiars makes some fine ones that will work, but you should understand which grit to use for which type of scratch, and a good technique. Someone looking for the quick n' easy convenience fix probably ought to back off and let someone with some poly polishing experience work on the scratches.

I have tried it -- and it works really well. There are specific products for each finish, and I used it on a poly finish piano with great results. Removed some small scratches and left the surface feeling and looking like glass. Definitely a product I would recommend to anyone for minor home care.

I just use the Meguiars #9 on poly finishes. Works very well, and helps get out very minor scuffs. I also use it when completing a poly touch up repair as part of the final buffing after sanding up to about 8 bazillion grit sandpaper.

I've also used it on hand rubbed lacquer finishes to bring the sheen up just a little.

I agree with Rich. I use Meguiar's #9 on poly. If the scratch is still there , then I use Meguiar's #2, then follow with #9. A hint: if you can feel the scratch using your fingernail, it will not buff out. It needs to be sanded and buffed, which is a job for a pro.
