Many thanks, Jeff! I for one was new to the piece, and had no idea of this perspective - only Jimmy's rendition...

While tuning a Whitney Spinet I thought about how delighted Bach or Mozart would have been with one despite what we might think of them.

Beat you today!

9 upright pianos at our local school. 6 U1's a Welmar and a Knight. The first 6 were a breeze, the last two hard. Then off to another town to tune a Steinway D and B together for a concert.

The B couldn't be transported, so it was an upright U3 vs D!

Best wishes...

My car has an "equal temperament" but, today, I did not. I had sort of a "mean tone" attitude. But, I wound out the day being "well tempered." grin

Some cars, e.g. Honda, have variable valve timing: VVT.
My car has equal-beating valve timing!

After reading the following well, many may realise, all of a sudden that they no longer have a well temperament but a reversed well temperament.

Many piano tuners tune reverse well well! Well? Let's not reverse this well!

Well, they would not or cannot admit to this at all well or they may seem to tune well reverse well and this would not go down well and then they would not have a well temperament. But when one does not admit to tuning reverse well then all is well and our temperament is well or is not that well?

Well what?

Is it all well or is it all equal?

With some, they say all is well, when others say that all is equal? Some say that all is well and all is equal. And for others, they say it is not all well and not all equal.

But the big question is, is it all well and is it all equal?

Hardly so, and this is not well.

Well?

Started out with an icky Whitney Spinet, then a pitch raise on a Yamaha Studio P22. Nice and smooooth, just like a Yamaha should be.

Hey Loren, I was looking at your web site (very nice) and I wondered if it's ever difficult playing an out of tune piano. Do you try to tune it before you play? I play piano a little (I'm actually a drummer) and when I do play I'm always hearing unisons that went out, etc... I would think it might be hard to concentrate on your playing if something is out.

I have not done it yet, but today I start another season for the organization that I have been tuning for many years. Sometime this year, I will have been tuning for them half my life.

I do try and tune before I play, but that's not always possible! It can be nerve wracking coming up to a strange piano to play on and not knowing its history. I always have my tools with me just in case! At the very least, I'll touch up the worst unisons.
