I haven't listened to this one in a while (i.e. a month or so). I had forgotten how awesome it is.

Now I am listening to Andsnes's recording, and the very first measure just lit up my ears. It's an incredible concerto, and Andsnes/Boulez/Berliner Philharmonic just play it so wonderfully.

The rhythms are really exciting - jarring and powerful, yet aesthetically pleasing. The harmonies are really neat - very unorthodox, but there is this real exotic, emotional appeal in it.

I love it.

I absolutely love this concerto! It's so exciting to listen to, it's too bad more people don't play it. I want to learn it in a couple of years when I have the technique.

Perhaps the reason not many people play it is because it is so darn difficult. Much like the Prokofiev 2nd not many pianists really feel like learning such a beastly concerto.

I listened to Cziffras recording recently, and I totally agree, it's a great piece.

You should check out some other recordings. Andsnes is good, but not the best. The most technically perfect recording is Pollini/Abbado, while the most intense recording I've heard is Donohoe/Rattle. And if you'd like, I can send you Richter's unreleased 1958 recording from Budapest with Ferencsik conducting, which is also quite good.

Geza Anda's rec is also great, he doesn't rape the piece by making it extremely percussive like most pianists do.
