I need some advice. Working on op.90 and it's going fairly well. However, at the end of the second impromptu, I am have a lot of trouble with the right hand scales in the last 8 bars. I keep missing the G flat and often the A flat in measures 276-279. I have practiced all different rhythms. Slow with a metronome and gradually increasing speed. I am pretty much playing the black keys with flat fingers. But it refuses to produce 100%. Very disappointing since the remainder of the work is going very well. I have tried leaving out the accelerando but that doesn't help much and the passage really needs the moving forward. I have discovered if I hold the initial E flat at the beginning of each measure a slight bit, I have increased success. Any ideas???

What fingering are you using? I find 3143212 works well.

That's the fingering I am using. I am going to try slowing the entire Impromptu down a little to see if cleaner sounds faster and keeps the last 8 bars in control.

I play these notes like a downhill run. Start with low wrist and push away from the last note, touchdown on the first of the next series etc. It is not good to control the fingers on each note, instead try to control the general movement. And don't try thumb-under, it is rather hand shifting there while the fingers are running along.

In fact, it might help to add a crescendo from the first to the last note and have your arm almost pull the hand, not follow it.

By the way, what is your target tempo?

I have been doing the hands separate. I will certainly try what you described Guendola. It's a good concept. Pretty sure this problem is upstairs and message isn't getting to the fingers. The tempo I have the entire impromptu is 66 to the bar. Thanx!!
