I think you are correct. The new published specs seem to indicate otherwise but I just checked my owners manual and it clearly states Key-off and String Resonance on the old model. So I wonder what changes they have made?
Hopefully longer samples.

I have no idea, but my guess is that the "a" denotes a truly minor change. Like, addition or removal of Bluetooth (or USB) support in certain countries. The old P series also used a trailing letter to denote color, e.g., P-125B for black and P-125W for white...not sure if that has any relevance here....

Hopefully they are keeping the USB midi and USB audio features.
My biggest gripe with the P125/121 are the short sample lengths followed by some unrealistic looping.

The p-125 (no A) has both string resonance and key off samples listed as features...

Not if you do head to head comparison on Yamaha website - I don’t know if it has them in reality

I know. I just figured like almost every site on the web, they may have incomplete specs or use different tables for different features in their comparator?

This is from the P-125 product page on Yamaha.com:

From a quick head2head comparison on the Yamaha website, these are the added features:

- table EQ
- string resonance (but I am quite sure that string resonance is also on P-25)
- stereo sustain samples (?)
- stereophonic optimiser.

The engine still is the old Pure CFIII, the keybed is the GHS and there is MIDI over USB (audio over USB is not documented but should still be present).

According to the specs, I am afraid they didn’t change the action..

Interestingly, this move seems to indicate that we are probably not going to see a true new entry level from Yamaha any soon.

Brings back fond memories of my younger days, me and 'er, scudding up and down Windermere, stopping off at the many lakeside hostleries along the way before the speed ban came into force. I had a 55hp twin cyl Yamaha outboard, on a Shetland 535. She planed nicely, but my dog fell overboard before he'd learned to swim. He wouldn't go near water after that.
Happy days . . .!

Bad news. From the manual, pag 24:

Only MIDI data can be transmitted/received from/to this instrument. No audio data can be transmitted/received.

It is incredible!!!! Yamaha decided to commit suicide..:

Interesting. Looks like they've removed the USB audio interface. Glad I have a pre "a" P125. I wouldn't purchase one without an audio interface. Probably go with a Roland instead.

God Bless,
David

oh geez ..... so it really is a downgrade maybe. Their code is case sensitive --- so it is P-125a, not P-125A.

The letter is lower case, but the mistake is capital.

+100. That is a really bad mistake. I just hope that they keep selling the P-125 ..... and charge less for the P-125a.

Cristal balling: P125a (castrated) will stay, P125 discontinued, next launch will be P315, just like DGX670 without styles but with line outs and GH3 - price around Eur 1000

Maybe it is only a marketing strategy to push the sales of the current (un-castrated) model.

Or maybe this is the result of the global crisis and inflation, when a manufacturer either increases prices or offers less for a comparable price, saving even on small things. Also, haven't you forgotten which pedal now comes with the ES120 by Kawai? And this will be seen more and more often now and in different areas.

+1 if this turns out to be true (Yamaha might be pranking us).

I expect something like this from Kawai, but not Yamaha; once again, assuming it’s true that they removed what is now a key feature (audio over USB).

Just out of curiosity, do we know if Tim Cook took over Yamaha? If so, we’re in trouble!

If they ‘castrate’ the P-515, I will personally sue!
