Hello,
My CA99 has firmware 1.08, which we updated from 1.04 after purchase. Everything upgraded successfully, no problems.
I am unable to update to firmware 2.10 or 2.08.
I am using the SAME USB stick that I used previously.
When I insert the USB stick (formatted as FAT32) into the USB TO DEVICE port, and I restart with the four keys pressed, the piano update screen shows but just displays "Insert USB Memory". The USB stick is correctly inserted and into the correct port. The USB stick is FAT32 and contains only file CAx9_P06.SYS in the root.
I have now tried two more USB drives, of different capacities.
Please can anyone help?
NB I have been able to successfully update the LCD to 1.2.1 using the same USB drive connected to the other USB port on the CA99.
Many thanks.

Many thanks. Sure looks like you are following the instructions given here https://www.kawai-global.com/data/updates/cax9/ca99_ca79_sys_v210_en.pdf to the letter. When you say "restart" you DO mean that the piano was turned off, and you are "restarting" by pressing the POWER button to turn on the piano (as the Kawai instructions say)? There is also a longish thread that I found on the updates. This post may be relevant http://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthre...software-update-thread.html#Post3176349. From what I read, there is agreement that it's important that the LCD and the System be at the same version. Beyond that, it seems that some Europeans (at Kawai?) indicate that the system should be updated BEFORE the LCD. KawaiJames writes that it shouldn't matter. So... maybe worth going back a version on the LCD then trying the system update again? Wish I could be more helpful. If all else fails, I'd get back to Kawai and bug them.

Hello Jim, I've already responded to your enquiry on this topic sent via the Kawai Global website, however I'll paste my response below, just in case: Hello Jim,
Thank you for contacting Kawai Japan, and for purchasing the CA99 digital piano.
Regarding your enquiry, if you've confirmed that the USB stick is connected to the correct "USB to Device" port (and not the "USB for UPDATE" port), it's possible that the USB stick is, for whatever reason, no longer being recognised by the CA99.
Sometimes it can happen that formatting a USB stick in a computer can result in it no longer being recognised correctly by the instrument.
My recommendation would be to try a different USB stick - preferably one that has not previously been formatted by a computer, as counter-intuitive as that might seem.
If this still does not work, please purchase a brand new USB stick. I would recommend a reputable brand, with a relatively small capacity - something a like a Sandisk Cruiser, USB2, 32GB should work fine. This is the device I use with Kawai instruments and it has always performed very well.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards, James x

Yes, my understanding is that the instrument's system firmware and touchpanel software function somewhat independently of each other. However, some newer features of the UI (e.g. User Virtual Technician adjustments) will require a firmware update to function correctly. As for the order in which to apply the update, I don't believe this is so important, however I would probably do the firmware update first, then the touchpanel update, for the reason mentioned above. Kind regards, James x

Hi all (and especially James, apologies for my double-contact). I guess the piano is very sensitive. I eventually got this to work this morning, on what was my seventh USB drive. I have a bunch of Sandisk and Crucial drives, and none of them worked. I've finally succeeded with an ancient Corsair Voyager, which I shall now keep taped to the back of the piano for next time Many thanks Jim
