I invented a new method for learning piano. First I'm going to learn to play A above middle C perfectly at any tempo and volume. Then I'll do the same with F# two octaves below. Then Bb in the middle octave, then G way up at the top, and so on until I can play any note perfectly at any tempo and volume. At that point the entire historical piano repertoire will be accessible to me. This method cannot fail.

I've listened to every available recording by Horowitz and Rubinstein (the pianists, not the law firm). I can already play Eb below middle C every bit as well as they did.

Just a brief description here is the beginning.

The next step is to create a brief 3-5 min video to describe the product and upload it on YouTube or Vimeo and use it as a marketing tool. You can get more online responses from people who are interested in the idea.

Make sure you write a great set of exercises—- available only to members 🎹

Ken Baker, you are genius! How come nobody before you has ever thought about this?

Playing the piano is learning to create, playfully and deeply seriously, our own music in the world.

same - just playing notes by pp, p, f, ff - all along the scale? not sure how that helps.

Hi Janis, welcome to Piano World!

It is just a joke. It is like saying, once I have learned to pronounce every single letter of the French alfabet, I can speak French. Or once I can mix any colour of paint that exists, I can paint a copy of every single painting there is.

It's such a relief I didn't misinterpret what I thought I read.

This method was invented by Douglas Hofstadter and is his sole intellectual property. KenBaker, cease and desist or prepare to be sued! wink

There, I fixed it for you, no charge...

It's actually 10 times more difficult than you thought!

An interesting innovation, I never thought of that. I've always played piano the same way I type, just using my two index fingers. It's called the Columbus method - find it and land on it.

Now that's funny! But what about chords? You'll have to include pedal - but that's easy, just push it down and leave it down!
