I am shopping for a new piano for home use, and I like both of these models. Anyone have personal experience with either of these? I have only had the chance to sit down at them once or twice, hard to get to the galleries due to location and schedule.

Kawai GX2. ($33K)

Wilhelm Schimmel W180 ($30K)

I am leaning a little towards the W. Schimmel, just based on gut feeling when sitting down at the pianos. I know it is made in the Schimmel factory in Poland, but my understanding is with German parts. Both seem still like quality instruments. The biggest hang-up I have currently is actually the finish on the W180, only available in high gloss at the local gallery and I want a satin finish, would be about $2.5K to "satin-ize" it..

In general, I am looking for a grand around 6', preferably new (though used not a total deal-breaker), $35K upper limit for cost (after tax). Any other make/model suggestions appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Jameezy,

You put your thread in the wrong forum, which may be the reason why nobody has answered you yet. I would advise you to start a new thread in the Piano forum.
(As for your question, I have no idea!)

Playing the piano is learning to create, playfully and deeply seriously, our own music in the world.
