It's Fun to Play the Piano ... Please Pass It On!
Orrin Evans has played with a lot of people over the years - but currently he is and Kevin Eubanks are playing as a duo.
Anyway, as Orrin has said,"Cunningham is my piano home and I love to stop by and see what they are working on." That happened yesterday. Please forgive me because this video was taken with an Iphone. After playing for. a moment, Orrin shared, "I could live with this piano." Sorry Orrin, it has to go home to Florida.
Sweet sounding piano Rich. Thanks for turning me onto Orrin Evans, am now listening to him on Spotify. Hope to be able to visit your piano shop one day as well.
Daily driver: Yamaha Avantgrand N1 First crush: Kawai GL10, MP11SE Current fling: Petrof III Foster child: 1927 Kurtzmann upright
Thanks Rich for sharing! Great piano and great musician 🎶
"Music, rich, full of feeling, not soulless, is like a crystal on which the sun falls and brings forth from it a whole rainbow" - F. Chopin "I never dreamt with my own two hands I could touch the sky" - Sappho
Well not the exact same one, but it sounds just as good as mine.
For those who say a 100+ year old piano can not sound good!
I assume the piano in the video has been rebuilt. When people say 100+ old pianos don't usually sound good, they are talking about pianos that are not rebuilt.
Don't recall hearing Orrin's name until I saw this thread, yesterday. Then, last night, I found that he's at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola (at Jazz at Lincoln Center) on the 19th.

Oh, he plays everywhere, tend to rush. He is definitely worth seeing. If you see him there, walk up and tell him you know me.... but don't blame me if he punches you.
This piano was fully rebuilt by our staff and our staff has been chosen by a host of professionals, schools, universities, and discriminating avid amateurs for this same work. For an explanation of what that can mean, please see this video, which was filmed by The Science Channel and aired on their program, "How It's Made" to show as an example of what piano restoration is.

Is a $440,000 piano worth it for home use?
I found that listing on Ebay Panama. That piano is not freshly rebuilt. I can see no obvious flaws, although the bridge pinning in the lower bass does look uneven to my eye, it is a difficult thing to determine from a single photo. Also, the inlay is beautiful, but the finish has faded in spots, which means the piano has most likely seen sun damage. This piano is not worth 1/4 of $440,000.00, IMHO. But there must be someone who thinks differently than I do.
