You are correct. That is essentially what the system does. We installed it for a University professor when we rebuilt this piano in 2014 (at his request). He is now retired and the piano came back to us. This young lady (with a little help from family) got the piano of her dreams!

You are correct. That is essentially what the system does. We installed it for a University professor when we rebuilt this piano in 2014 (at his request). He is now retired and the piano came back to us. This young lady (with a little help from family) got the piano of her dreams! Such a clever design. I'm also wondering if this would some impact on the action geometry, namely the height of the keybed or keydip (as the balance point retreats and the pivot increases, the front of the keys must rise if the back is to remain against the back rail), and possibly whippen resting position against the capstan (which will be moving up/down with adjustment)... In any case, I'd say the customer really got an amazing and unique piano!

Yes, Grieg could be a good choice - once they put a real piano in that room. But then, maybe the room isn't real either. On the other hand, with all that glass and hardwood flooring ... Regards,

The Stanwood Adjustable Leverage Action changes all that. It is simple to use, but complex in execution, SALA allows the pianist to simultaneously move the entire key leverage point of the keyboard by simply turning two knobs set into the key frame. These control knobs, one at the bass end and one at the treble end, are revealed by lifting up the key slip. You can learn more about this system by clicking here. This is an amazing aside, thanks for dangling the carrot, Rich  From what I can see, the Stanwood SALA system replaces the uniform "balance rail" with individual bumper pads (the two white pads on either side of the pin in the picture below) sitting on sliding straps (the think maroon ones). The bottom of the keystick rests against the pads, which form the pivot point. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.mvtimes.com/mvt/uploads/2016/05/david_stanwood_1-1.jpg) When you turn the knobs, the white plate just forward of the balance rail slides back and forth, pulling the maroon straps forward or backward, which moves the position of the bumper pads relative to the fixed balance pins. So this lets you move the "balance rail" point under keys, while keeping the pins in place. And if you move only the left or right side individually, you can introduce a gradient, which is kind of how larger grand actions tend to work (longer keys at the bass, shorter at the treble). From the look of it, there's about 1cm of adjust fore and aft the pins, making for ~2cm total adjustment possible. That's a pretty sizable range of adjustment, similar to going up a foot or so in length in an acoustic grand? I'd love if someone who knows/understands this action mechanism can confirm/correct the above! Gombessa, In addition to moving the pivot point, the SALA does several things when the touch is changed. To get a lighter action, the SALA gives the piano more key dip and less blow with THE SAME aftertouch. Going to a heavier feel, the piano gets less dip and more blow, again, with the same aftertouch. This is the amazing part of the SALA system. I hope that helps.

Nah, white is still unappealing. Black or a wood shade (maple, rosewood, etc) would work in the room.
