"Boesndorfers is the standard that the entire industry compares itself to." (I don't know if this is a direct quote). I've never met a pianist or a piano technician who doesn't hold Boesendorfer in high esteem. Whenever you get a chance to play one, take the opportunity and give it all the time you have.

Bösie is king (IMO)!

I've shared this story a number of times, but the piano by which I measure all others is an old Bösendorfer in the choir loft of a church in my hometown. I sang in a couple of choirs that rehearsed there for about a decade after I graduated from college, and could sit and play it virtually any time I wanted. In those days, piano wasn't really on my radar, but I loved that piano! ~7 feet, wood finish, and older, but in excellent condition.

I wish that "ephemeral" had an equally impressive sounding antonym, because the memory is obviously not fleeting, but to say that it's "long lasting" just doesn't do it justice.

They are also very specific. I played 214VC and I know personal aly fee other pianists who had issues with controlling it. All things great but left without sentiment after few minutes.

Really? Well I doubt anyone has heard of them in Europe. They don't sound like a European brand. Are they made in Indonesia?

No the Indonesians make pianos with German names like Yamaha.

Ok, so you've piqued my curiosity. Apparently they're relative newcomers to the piano manufacturing scene, which probably explains why no one in Europe has heard of them yet. General consensus seems to be their 280VC is a decent choice for budget-conscious shoppers unwilling to pay the premium for more well-known brands.

Yamaha? Another piano manufacturer I assume? I think one little-known piano manufacturer is enough for this thread. By introducing another manufacturer that no has heard of you're just confusing everyone.

Perhaps there is some confusion with motor bikes. Bosendorfer 1280s are very popular on the Steinway tracks dotted round Europe, so are Yamahas and Kawais.

Get an 85-key Bechstein upright for the office and you'll hit about the right width.

I also believe that a distinction must be made between those who are active in the "piano industry", whether as dealers, musicians, technicians, etc., and those who only perceive pianos marginally at best. I made a similar statement about the "Schimmel" brand (but only in Germany). For a long time, the term "Schimmel" was almost synonymous with "piano" for the layman. Everyone knew the brand. And I think it's still well known. This may have something to do with the great successes in certain decades, where they were the market leader in Germany. Other brands that people familiar with pianos naturally know and appreciate, Bösendorfer, Bechstein etc. are not really anchored in the repertoire of the average citizen. Of course, nothing can be derived from this, except for what has been said above.
