I too like Modern U better with Timbre Shift at -1. It makes the higher octaves sound fuller.

The demonstration on the last page is quite good, and made me consider the Modern U as my first purchase in the software world (piano). It has some beautiful Chopin examples, and a very rich intimate sound.

I’ll just wait for a sale... 170 is a lot on my currency.

One other thing if to find an example for different microphones and see if there’s a combination that would work thru the CLP-745’s speakers.

Hello,

For those who'd like another example of setting up Modern U:

https://pianoclack.com/forum/d/84-vi-labs-modern-u-review/10

I explain my setup there in several posts in that thread. It is my everyday piano and I hardly ever touch any setting anymore.

Just recently I did make a small change to my setup though: both the velocity and gain curves are back to default (bend knobs at zero). This I did following, and inspired by, playing a real Yamaha U3 a couple of weeks ago.

Cheers and the happiest playing,

HZ

I think I cracked it. The dynamics are now perfect. The trick was to start with "VPC1 Custom" curves preset. This has the perfect Gain Response curve.
Then I adjusted the midi response so that it doesn't sound too bright but not too dark either.
That's my settings now:
