Hello, i have bought a Friedrich Ehrbar piano and was thinking for a restoration. The piano is about 140 years but is still playable. Anyone can help me figure out if it is worth restoring or not? Past 3 days i was searching a lot stuff about this piano and i was actually amazed what i have found. I heard that this guy made some good stuff and the history it's just wow. Here are few pics https://imgur.com/a/dmViKs9

Ehrbar made some good pianos and I toyed with the idea of buying one and rebuilding it. However most of their grands have a Viennese action instead of the modern action. The restorers I've spoken to either would advice against restoring pianos with a Viennese action or some have suggested replacing it with a modern action but that's a big job and you have no idea how it will turn out. I guess it depends on whether you love the piano that much? I don't think you would ever recoup the cost of rebuilding one (and I decided against it in the end) but then again we don't just do things just because of cost smile.

Well, if i will decide not to restore it then i will keep it for myself and make it just playable....i will be very happy for that. I will wait for more answers tho.....i think this piano might be some rare stuff

You are posting this in the FAQ section which does not get looked at very much.

You would get more responses if you re-post this in the main Piano Forum.
