"Cents, panorama de Clausen au coucher du soleil", the first piece of my suite "Images of Luxembourg", which will contain eight pieces in total, inspired by scenes and moments experienced in the city where I've been living for the last ten years.
It sure has a certain atmosphere. No idea if it is typical Luxembourg. I have never been there. I thought it was a country of bankers, but I guess I was wrong
well, it is for sure a country of bankers and European bureaucrats, mainly. But still, it's definitely got many pretty sights. For instance, the old town of the capital city is a Unesco world heritage. After all, Switzerland is a country of bankers, but this doesn't impact in any way the beauty of its Alpine landscapes. Really? Maybe I should visit the old city. I live in the south of The Netherlands, so I could make it a return trip. Or I'll stay in a hotel, but I'm afraid they are very expensive.
Nice pieces of music Paolo! I like them. Thank you for posting! (Although I’m not much into descriptive music. I can’t see rivers or sunsets in your music. For me they represent rather your mood when watching those scenes)
Thank you Rowy! And thak you mydp! Pity, I thought I had at least nailed it with the river imagery! But yeah, the final sound was definitely influenced by my mood while watching those scenes.
Great pieces Paolo! I can hear the river imagery in your Le Petrusse et l'Alzette! I like the use of seventh chords with that hint of dissonance in your first piece.
I don't know how to describe your style. There's melancholy in it, a certain desolation, tenderness... It's not really romantic, it certainly is not Yan Tiersen, thankfully, and you don't try to imitate Chopin or Satie. You're not afraid to experiment either. It's almost as if you're hard to influence, and that's a blessing for a composer. Perhaps we should call your style the Luxembourg Style
Thanks Rowy, you don't know how much I appreciate these words. I do strive to be as original as possible in my compositions - not sure if successfully or not - and it's not like I don't imitate any of the artists you mention... it's rather that I imitate ALL of them at the same time and many many many more from the most disparate styles and historical periods.
Very beautiful. Delicate yet soulful. I very much liked it. Would definitely work as a film score. I'm seeing the camera following someone at a distance as they cross roads, look in shops, glance at other passers by. Just my personal response.
Really, really good stuff. I would love to see a live performance. The only advice I can think of is engraving related. Id love to see some phrasing, etc.
Your suite de pièces has an impressive atmosphere so far, and it is a pleasure to listen to this lyric music of yours. The Panorama de la ville basse de Clausen (with or without sunset) is rather melancholy, the delicate arpeggios of the second piece fit the Pétrusse and the Alzette very well, taking into account they are really very, very small if not tiny, and the piece about the Abbaye de Neumünster and the St. Jean Church by night is rather impressive, perhaps a bit too dramatic.
