I have a student who would like to play music from a "modern" film for their ARSM exam. Has anybody used any pieces from this genre for the ARSM exam? The rest of his programme is pieces selected from the syllabus.

The regulations just say that the own choice piece must be of at least G8 or above standard and not exceed 10 mins. You could look at other syllabi for ideas, eg LCM which tends to have more up to date repertoire in its lists. For example I found this on the G8 list, a Pirates of the Carribean medley by Jarrod Radnich which I don't think anyone would claim was too easy!
