Can anyone recommend the most accurate, well printed editions of classical music? (IE; Peters, Henle, Schirmer)

Or even by the following Composers (some editors may concentrate on one particular composer):

Bach
Beethoven
Chopin
Debussy

thanks

Emerson or Lester Upright (1920's)
Westbrook Spinet (1969)
Schomacker Model A (1912)
Steinway Model A (1912)

For Chopin I think the National Edition is the recommended one.

Henle is very high quality and I use it as my default unless something else is recommended.

The concept of well printed varies by person. And the quality of printing is not equal for a given publisher. I tend to prefer Barenreiter in general, but some of their older prints are not so good or at least not as good as the newer ones.

For Bach, i usually have Barenreiter, Henle or ABRSM
For Chopin, National Edition or barenreiter when available.
Debussy, Barenreiter, Henle, Durand
Beethoven, Schnabel, ABRSM, or Henle

Different editions for each composer are based on what you want, expensive/inexpensive editions etc. When I’m buying edition I always mostly go for Henle or Wiener Urtext as they stay open on the music stand while playing and no needing to break the spine to keep them open! The cream colour paper is also nice to read and easy on the eyes.

Bach: Baranreiter
Beethoven: Henle which I have or Wiener Urtext
Chopin: Henle or WU
Debussy: Henle

Price is always a factor when buying music so keep that in mind. If your studying music in hen by all means get good editors (expensive) if not then schirmer or the “cheap” ones are ok, but have a lot of editorial marks by editors in regards tempi notes and dynamics which the composer didn’t write. That’s why with Henle among others, the name URTEXT means that there is no editing involved. Only the music on the score is what the composer wrote.

Hope this helps, best of luck!
