I saw this in an article in the NYT today. It was at the top of an article by music critic Anthony Tommasini who is retiring soon. This work is by Fatinha Ramos:




Then there's this, which I can't remember how I found, by the artist Marie-Pierre Kuhn:




I wish I could commission one of these artists to do a painting like one of these, but of me at the piano!

Interesting piano paintings, Dr. ShiroKuro. Pianistic art for sure.

As for the music critic, Anthony Tommasini, I've never heard of him, but congratulate to him on his retirement. Of course, I doubt he will stop being a music critic. Once a music critic, always a music critic, although he may stop writing about it, or maybe not.

My late wife had a good friend who was an artist. She could look at a photograph and draw/paint a replica by hand. My late wife once had her to draw a picture of me and my horse, Ranger, at the time. I always thought she drew my nose too wide, but the rest of the drawing was very good.

That first one certainly has an odd arrangement of keys or is simply missing a bunch of keys in the wrong places. It would be a real challenge trying to play that one.

If you scroll through the images (using the arrow on the right side of the central picture) 21 times, you should get to the Red Rose Serenade. It worked for me, anyway.

The second painting has a naive kind of style, it reminds of Frida Kahlo for some reason.You could also experiment with.photography, perhaps an art student would be interested in creating a collage of you at the piano?

Here’s a painting called Mujeres tocando piano (Women playing piano) which I think is very striking. It is by the Cuban artist Amelia Peláez. This was not her only painting where the subject was a woman or women playing piano.

Thanks for this thread. I am enjoying it. I also thought I would share. Some years back, a client of mine bought a Schimmel grand piano. Just a few months after that he bought a second piano, a lmited edition Bösendorfer. Although he is a plastic surgeon by trade, he loves art and music and painted this expression of his experience finding these pianos and gave it to me to display in one of our showrooms, which we do proudly. For reference, the painting is about 4' x 4'. I apologize in advance for the poor photography. It is more striking in person.

Oh I wondered about that ShiroKuro, it seemed like an outdated idea.I would not like one of myself either.(different if I was a professional pianist)

What I meant was, it would be neat to have a quirky art version of me at the piano, something like the girl in the second image.

But not a photo, I don't need to see what I really look like!

I understand a sort of stylized version in a modern painting where the pianist is not central but just a part of a picture, sort of cubist or surrealistic like the examples shown.I just suggested photography because that technique is used in collage like pictures.But yes I get it- I would also like one like that.
