I think he was just more unfamiliar than anything. I love the MIII action and I see it as an improvement to traditional wood only actions.
So I stopped by three places today and my favorites of the day were: Yamaha S7X (which I was shocked that I loved it so much) A 7’ Estonia And a 6’ Fazioli that had the most amazing bass I’ve heard on an instrument that size. Not sure it helped me much but it was fun.

If the Steinway B made you cry, did you love the other pianos quite as much? One of the best pianos I've ever played was a B in college. It sounds like you had a real emotional connection with that piano!

Sadly the model B was sold while I was waiting to hear back from the dealer. But after considering the deal offered for the Fazioli 6’ and the S7X as well, I’m going with the limited edition SK-3! The dealer agreed to drop the price again so I feel like I’m getting a pretty great deal. I’m so happy and excited ! Thank you all for your advice and support.

You continued to extol the virtues of the SK3 during your search - so it really must be the piano you are meant to own. Please send photos when the piano is delivered.

Congrats! I'm little bit surprised you had 7- and 3-size instruments to pick from, they are quite different beasts.

Congrats! I'm little bit surprised you had 7- and 3-size instruments to pick from, they are quite different beasts. Ultimately pragmatism played a factor. My husband is currently working on getting into grad school so there’s a possibility we’ll be moving in a year or two so the SK-3 will be able to fit in more living rooms than a 7’6” haha. But more importantly even after playing larger pianos, I still felt the SK-3 played and performed beyond the expectations of its size. If I had a better experience with the SK-6 then I may have gone that route, but I’m happy to wait until the next time I’m in the market for a larger instrument. I’m going to be more than happy with my new Shigeru!

Late to the discussion. ScrubNinja, is the SK3 you bought the gloss black one with wood accents on the fallboard and cheek blocks, I believe? If so, I tried that piano a few months ago and thought it was the most beautiful piano I'd ever seen. It sounded and played beautifully too. I am so jealous: you absolutely have to post photos of it in your home!
Congratulations!

So slight turn of events… I’ve been playing phone tag with the dealer so I haven’t been able to give my down payment yet on the SK-3, and the Yamaha dealer just offered me an amazing deal on the S7X so now I’m very torn between the two. Help ! Haha

Interesting turn of events. I was about to offer congrats like everyone else, but this is an interesting dilemma.
You mentioned resale and trading up earlier in the thread. "Yamaha" might be easier to sell down the road, especially if you got a good deal on it to begin with. By reputation, Yamaha tends to discount less than Kawai, but who knows during the pandemic (when discounts seemed to dwindle anyway).
BTW, what happened with the Baldwin? Just curious.

Yeah the SX7 is about $6,000 more than the SK-3. So that’s not insignificant, but having the extra 1’4” for $6,000 more certainly is tempting haha.

Hey Ninja Looks like there is a new piano in your future—- right?😊

There's been a number of S7X recordings shared here recently. It seems like quite a nice piano.
