Hello friends! First post here but glad to be with you all.
I'm looking for a more pro level midi controller to run all my software with (Pianoteq, Keyscape, Omnisphere, etc.) I know this has been discussed a bit, but I suppose the more specific focus of my search is I don't need any knobs, wheels, any of it. I don't really do synthy playing, I just want the keybed that's most like a grand.
My early search has shown the Kawai VPC-1 to be the best option, and I may very well go that direction, but I thought it was worth asking if I missed anything. Also, the Kawai is 65lbs and if there were an option that was twenty lbs less and 95% of the feel, I'd be very interested. But any suggestions are most welcome!

most likely the vpc1
trading off weight (and $$) for action you could look at:
kawai es110
roland fp10
these involve other compromises too and might not meet your playability threshold. everyone will tell you to try the actions before you buy so i won't bother

I just want the keybed that's most like a grand. SL88 Grand. Even has the "Grand" in its name. Jokes aside, if someone tells "like a grand", they really just want hammers in there. So, if you aren't convinced by the VPC-1's action yourself (ie. by playing it yourself, maybe even without sound), then it's just heavy, expensive, and cumbersome with no upside IMHO.

The Numa X Piano GT might be worth considering once it's actually available, since it's supposed to have a better version of the SL88 Grand action. Same action (at least, same model number) as in the Dexibell Vivo S9, so if you can test that one out somewhere nearby it might give you an idea.
Yamaha P515 is also popular for its action, a good deal lighter than the VPC1

As a "piano-only, no knobs, no wheels, no joysticks" MIDI controller, the VPC1 is in a league of its own; everything else is a compromise. IMHO, there are two reasons not to buy a VPC1: 1) it costs way more than you can afford to spend; and 2) you will frequently have to move it (it's heavy!) If you can afford it, and if it's going to spend most of the time on a stand in your living room, there is no substitute for the VPC1. Hope this helps!
