After having waited for the NV5 since May, and with the prospect of having to wait for another 3-4 months, I finally caved in and decided to cancel the order and shop for an NU1X. I found one for less than $7K (shipping and taxes included), cheaper than the price I had agreed to pay for the NV5, but higher than what I would have paid back in May, and bought it.

It arrived within a couple days and I am very happy with it. granted, my main comparison is my old FP30, so almost anything would have been an upgrade, but the NU1X feels and sounds really great. The action feels similar to what I have experienced with my teacher's piano and the sound through the speakers (or the headphones) is simply spectacular.

One thing I noticed right away was the 'loud note' issue that had been widely described in the forum and elsewhere. I was rather annoyed at first, but after installing the updated firmware (2.10) the issue seems to be completely resolved and I haven't been able to reproduce it.

I know the NV5 is probably a superior instrument, and the old fashioned LED display on the NU1X is not the best, but in the end I rarely change the settings and I simply play with either the Yamaha CFX or the Bosendorf samples.

Enjoy your hybrid. I am sure it is a wonderful piano.
Having this marvelous beast, don't look back to the nv5 and enjoy it.

I played a nu1 at a dealer once and it was the first digital piano that impressed me. I think it wasn't even the x version.

Congratulations!

I have the NU1X as well.
I wouldn't say the NV5 is superior.. maybe on the technical specs sheet.
Both instruments are great. I picked the NU1X because I liked the feel and sound of it better. It's subjective.
Congrats to your NU1X... every time I play it I still am amazed how great it sounds and feels smile

Have to wait till March behoren it arrives (Netherlands). Yesterday, after comparison with the nv5s I did buy the nu1x. It’s subjective. But what I can’t stand is the saying here of reviewers that the warmth of the nv5s suits classical pianists. I like music before 1600 and the Yama definately does a better job there, and that’s not subjective.

Old: a dusted Roland D5 synth. Upcoming: Yamaha NU1X digipi.
