What are the white things covering the capstans? Plastic?

The bucket of water is pretty scary looking. Does he ever empty it? Is he thoroughly squeezing out excess water? Otherwise he’s dragging a damp rag next to the glue seam of the bridge—couldn’t that weaken the bond, especially as any excess water will drip downwards?

His method of making a coil around the rag with a string is a pretty good idea, but I don’t go to that level of cleaning for typical vertical owners. Few of them would pay for that amount of time. Grand owners do, but not typical vertical owners.
