I placed on order for a YUS5 yesterday. Maybe, I will have it by this summer. I would have searching for a grand but I don't have the room for it. While at the dealership I had time to play several different pianos (grands that were well beyond my budget even if I had the space). The pianos I tried were a Fazioli, Bossendorfer, Shigeru Kawai, a Yamaha CFX concert grand and a Steinway Model D concert grand. All were new except for the Steinway. If I could have taken one of those pianos home it would have been the Shigeru Kawai. After coming back to reality, I wrote a check for the YUS5 (I have a U30-grey market-that I bought used in 2004 and I wanted to upgrade-it has been a good piano with a, to me, very satisfactory action and I decided to stick with Yamaha--couldn't really justify spending twice is much for a European upright). I should mention that I did try a Kawai upright but it didn't dissuade me from the Yamaha.

Just curious, at which dealer ship did you play all these pianos (Fazioli, Bösendorfer, Shigeru Kawai, and a Yamaha CFX concert grand) new?

Believe it or not, it was in Birmingham, Al (Ellis Piano). Piano dealers are a dying breed in Al (and else where).
Ellis is an authorized dealer for all the brands mentioned except Steinway (that’s why it was used). I was surprised they had all those models on hand. They are also an authorized Schimmel dealer. Forgot to mention I was able to also try a Schimmel upright and grand.

Wow - pay now and we'll deliver by summer. I take it there was no YUS5 on the floor? Otherwise you'd take the floor model, right?

Right. There wasn’t a floor model. Bit of a risk but I like the action on my current Yamaha, soI feel this is an acceptable risk. Thought about the kawai K 800 but the k 500 I tried was nice but did not blow me away. I really liked the Yamaha. Concert grand I tried so I decided to stick with Yamaha. (I could get it sooner than this summer but with the current supply chain issues, nobody is sure exactly when it will arrive.)

Congratulations! I love my DYUS5, a Disklavier version of the YUS5, and have had it for a little over a year now. The tuning has stabilized a lot in that year. Now, the piano sounds great.

I don't have room for a grand either. With this trend of destroying interior walls to create open plan rooms, it is becoming harder to find an interior wall for a piano. I have one interior wall in my dining room for a piano, and, luckily, the previous owner didn't tear that wall down.

With the pandemic, I wound up waiting for nine months to get the piano delivered, but that was because I moved.

Enjoy your piano! Summer will be here before you know it.
