How can we best deal with those irritating bots that have started to contaminate our threads? When we spot one, should we just ignore them, or is it best to write a message underneath, saying "Bot - don't click on the clickbait"? Should we notify the mods so they can remove the bot and the message? Or is that way too much work for them?

Playing the piano is learning to create, playfully and deeply seriously, our own music in the world.

I report the message to the moderators. If someone else has done it before, the system lets you know.

But I think the problem is that the registration on this site is too easy. The best way to capture those pesky spammers is to filter them on subscription time (by asking some piano interest background prior to allow registering, for example). But this means extra work for moderators and perhaps losing some possible members who don't want to deal with increased subscription requirements or time.

Those members are not likely to become active, helpful members anyway. So I think it is a good idea to filter for bots during registration.

I thouhght a moderator had to approve your first few posts, or at least it used to be like that when I joined.

Asking piano questions won't work. A bot can figure out anything that can be googled just by trying thousands of times.

Anyway, this is an arms race with the spammers. The AIs are getting ever smarter and web sites have to use every more clever techniques (like image captchas) to filter them out. Sometimes even humans are failing these checks. 😆

I am still quite in favour of writing a message underneath. For instance: "Don't feed the bot by clicking on the clickbait!"

That’s what I thought, too. If they don’t anymore, they should probably start doing it again. 👍

On the upper right corner of each post, there’s a little flag icon. Click the flag to report the post. It’s really easy and the moderators usually deal with the bot posts pretty quickly.

Ok thank you. It's good to know.
