I don’t know if the whole “hidden beauty” idea is copyrighted but I would think that would be something every piano maker might offer. Closed the piano is black and matches everything.

If I was buying a new piano, I would definitely prefer a wood finish of some kind. Perhaps mahogany.

Definitely not a glossy black. I know my own Bluthner is glossy black! But the black finish of the late 19c was so much nicer than the high-gloss finish of today.

And I really dislike a satin finish!

I think you can't beat this sort of finish:

This would (perhaps ) never be a choice for myself in a very high end upright. However there are quite few different choices in Steingraeber uprights. The vintage style upright style they have is quite nice, but in nice piano I would not be all that particular.PE would be fine.(if it's a wood finish, some I like but others definitely not) This one would distracting, although with some modern art in the room and a plain colour carpet it could be striking.
I do have my gloss ebony Schimmel upright arriving before Christmas so I have chosen my piano.Commenting on the gloss black with vertical lines.

Wilhelmina though seems very striking!

Actually the vintage style Steingraeber is equally impressive.Perhaps it's style and colour.

The Petrof Magic Egg takes the cake,.some of the other special upright designs are quite sedate and really nice, some not.

When it comes to grands both the Estonia and the Seiler Hidden Beauty to me are really attractive. The Seiler is more unusual and needs getting used to.

I’ve never seen Seiler pianos before except from Seiler’s website. Their Hidden Beauty is quite striking and the price is breathtaking literally, at least to me.

It makes me really appreciative of my Estonia. But then, maybe if I played the Seiler, I could understand the price difference.

I still prefer satin ebony, in a high-gloss world, but I always thought that a Steinway red mahogany grand was pretty in my old uni chapel. It matched the trim everywhere.
