Hello fellow beginners,
anyone can share the experience going through the book?
Is it advisable to work thru without a teacher?
Thanks

Op 599 is not a method. It is a catalogue of exercises. As such it isn't suitable for 'going though' in any progressive way. Think of them as exercises designed not to teach but to correct.

A teacher that is thoroughly conversant with the exercises in this book and other similar books may be able to direct you to pertinent exercises for your own particular set of problems but would have to oversee what you are doing wrong and correct you. If you weren't doing them wrong he wouldn't have had to prescribe those exercises in the first place.

That's very interesting information, thanks Richard

Exercises are not meant only to correct:they can be used to teach. The simplest example of this would be scale practice. Whether an exercise is used to teach or used to correct, a teacher can help the student do the exercises correctly.

Practicing any exercise is only useful if it is done correctly. That's where a good teacher can be very helpful to teach and/or correct.

This is why I said to think of them as... Perhaps you misunderstood that bit?

You said"Think of them as exercises designed not to teach but to correct." That comment doesn't seem to allow them to be used to teach but I disagreed with that.

Consider the difference between:

Think of them as exercises designed not to teach but to correct.
Do you see the difference between what you read and what I said?

Not only does my comment allow them to be used for teaching it actually implies that they usually are.

No, not at all. But I guess you agree with what I said about exercises.

No, you didn't see the difference between what you read and what I said?

I did not agree with what you said about exercises. It was you that disagreed with what you thought I said about exercises. Let's not make it sound like you're adding to the conversation.
