Now that explains why the piano sounds like a digital.

He is probably using the high quality sampled audio rather than recording the acoustic sound with microphones.

In many of his older YT Videos he plays a Casio. I can’t tell the difference between the Steinway and the Casio when he plays Nessun dorma from Puccini Turandot.

I wonder if he ever played Hannon?

brdwygu:

IMO, you need finger dexterity to be able to play like him.

Therefore, instead of Hanon I would strongly suggest Czerny op. 740, The Art Of Finger Dexterity. 50 studies.

I studied op.740 extensively in the past and found it very useful.

Here is the free score from imslp:

Czerny op.740 imslp page

And here is the whole set played:

Although i have heard a few delightful Czerny Etudes. I think the first three of Op.740 are unlistenable and would bore most people to death. I don't recommend practicing music exercises like that.

I also recommend Duvernoy op.120.

These are 15 short studies. Playing the whole set takes about 15 minutes.

Much more appealing than the Czerny IMO.

hanon is just a "warmup" for fingers it doesn't have technical benefits at all.

Hi Brdwyguy, My non-‘studies’ comment about this topic would be to review the fingering you are using for the passages you find difficult. Your problems may be significantly ameliorated by different fingering… sometimes what works in slow practice doesn’t work very well when I try to speed things up, and different fingering does the trick.

Hi Sgisela
Funny you are saying that

I worked on Somewhere In my Memory last night and
marked on the music the precise finger roll over on the arpeggios and
it helped them significantly and I was able to to them fluidly and easily in a row

now to work on the gliss/runs

thanks for the additional pointers!

Here is a tutorial on how to play fast scales (I guess you mean this by gliss/runs):
