Not arrangement, but both pieces are RCM Level 3 in the 2015 syllabus though? Unless it has changed
No, the Beethoven sonatina is level 5. Actually, each movement of the sonatina is considered one selection at level 5.

The Sonatina in F (Anh 5/2) is Level 5, but the Sonatina in G (Anh 5/1) is Level 3. I looked at the syllabus from the website, which is still the 2015 edition.

Are you sure it's BWV Anh. 114 though? There is the other famous "Minuet in G" BWV Anh. 116, which is slightly more difficult.

That makes sense, that one is Level 4

Aggghh! My recording cut off the last note of my performance! I submitted it anyway, but I'll probably keep trying for a better recording. Also, I promise I have a better sense of rhythm than my submission makes me sound. eek

So I've experimented quite a bit with my Zoom H1 and I think I'm getting decent recording quality now. The buzzing I had probably had something to do with signal interference with my phone, or dust , I don't know - but there is no more buzzing after vacuuming it, and putting my phone away while recording.

As I don't have a tripod, then the question is where to put the device. I tried putting it at the edge of the piano facing me, thinking that should be close to 'player perspective' - but the sound is a little claustrophobic and it picks up nail clicking 😄.

I tried piano lid open, Zoom H1 facing the strings, but the sound was just awful - I think it picked up reflections from the lid or something - it sounds like a piano in a can.

So lid closed, Zoom H1 on the center lid - but it picks up the vibration, i.e. notes have 'thump thump thump' to them. So I used a sponge to seat the device, and thump thump gone! Also, because I always have a piano cover on, uncovering at least the keyboard side all the way (where there is a slit under the folding front lid) makes a huge difference in the definition of the sound recording.

Finally - 'auto level' should be off, otherwise the volume goes up and down (e.g. passage after a silence gets loud because it cranks up the gain, but after a second or two the volume goes down again).

This recording exercise has been an eye opener - playing casually may be easy, but playing such that it holds up to scrutiny is not easy! The recording picks up every embarrassing detail that you're not even aware of 😅. Oh and my piano really needs tuning.

Cygnusdei - Even the pros find recording a piano difficult. Sounds like you found something that works for you, which is what I did eventually. I guess I don't have the right temperament to keep fooling with it until it's perfect. Now I just leave it set up and don't fret if it isn't perfect. It matches my playing!

I managed to squeeze mine in before the deadline! WOO HOO!

Disclaimer: My piano started making large amounts of pedal noise this morning. Not sure why, but I'll talk to my tech about it. This got picked up by the mic. It was pretty audible even to me as I played, so it's not just an issue of moving the mic farther out. Apologies for the distraction this causes. I hope you guys can still enjoy the music despite this problem.

And now I just noticed that PikaPianist submitted the same piece I did! :-) (Tchaikovsky's Doll's Funeral)

Looking forward to listening to everyone's submissions. I'm sure I'll leave this recital with lots of pieces I'll want to learn next.
