Hi here,
It's my first post here but I'm long time reader and use piano for adults section alot.

Me and my daughter both learn piano. My daughter taking classes and I do it for fun.

We had Yamaha portable piano for several years and had not a single problem with it.

My daughter made significant progress and I decided it's time to get something better and bought Kawai CN29 this March.

All was good in the beginning but about 2 months ago it started occasionally from time to time change sound of the notes. It's hard to explain so I included link to the file.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IgmA6IfQcLKWORUAdzaqV657pSOPn3LX/view?usp=drivesdk

Note played one by one without any other pedals pressed or depressed or any sound alterations. Only single note press-release.
You can hear affected sounds on the next seconds: 1, 7, 10, 12, 16, 26, 46, 53, 64.
It affects the main octave the most. Other octaves affected as well but not as bad as main.

Reset from the menu did not help.

I contacted store and they contacted Kawai over a month ago but no answer so far.

I'm thinking if anyone one had this issue and knows how to fix it if possible can help.

A digital piano that goes out of tune?

We've joked about that on the forum. 😉

I can't think of a mechanism by which that would happen as I don't think there's any note by note "unison width" adjustment on that Kawai. (Those odd notes sound like the 2 or 3 strings for those notes are slightly detuned.)

Does this happen on all the piano tones? That model has a couple of different grands and an upright. And of course some electric piano sounds etc.

Have you tried a full reset of the piano? I have not checked the manual, but I am sure there is a menu or key combination to bring the piano to factory settings: you need to backup recordings or registrations because they will be wiped out.

First of all, I don't know how to initialize the hardware in test mode, so please try the factory default set. Does it occur with any sound? Why don't you try a virtual technician app? Something may change.

Thanks, for answers.
I did factory reset as soon as those weird notes appeared. Actually multiple times by now.

I'll try virtual technician and other sounds too.

I am so jealous. I miss this Honky-Tonk piano sound in mine...

What sound did you play for this mp3 recording?

Hello Blues Harp,

I listened to the recording, and can hear an issue with two of the notes. I wonder if the velocity/force at which the note is struck has any bearing on whether the detuned note is played? Regardless, this shouldn't happen, therefore the issue should be resolved by your dealer under warranty.

Have you tried following-up with the dealer again?

May I ask you to send me a PM with more information, please? (your location, contact email, name of store, which Kawai subsidiary was contacted, serial number of your CN29, etc.)

Kind regarsd,
James

Hello Kawai James,

Actually it's true, the most affected note is note D of the main octave.
It doesn't depend how hard key hit. I noticed it appears after some time of the practice. Not always.

I'll send you more details in a PM.
