Hi,

My name is Lori and I live in east Tennessee. I took piano lessons for 2-3 years as a young person, and now I am starting to play again in my late 40s. My piano is a Baldwin Acrosonic spinet that my Mom and Dad gave me for Christmas when I was maybe 12 years old. Judging by the serial number, I think it was made in the 1960s.

I am mostly self-teaching right now, using John Thompson adult books and John W. Schaum alphabet series. Also Dozen a Day exercises by Edna Mae Burnam. I am old-fashioned, but amazed at how many good methods and supplements are available, and the wealth of demonstrations on Youtube. Music and music ed are so accessible!

I have already read many good discussions and searched the forums for information and reviews. You all are terrific.

Gotta go practice,
Lori

Welcome Lori!

I did the John W. Schaum alphabet series when I started back in elementary school (I'm 70+ now). Don't remember what letter I got up to. I guess the series has stood the test of time.

Yes, the forums are great! I've learned a lot from the folks here.

I started self-taught and now attending group classes at a local conservatory. It's less about serious learning than just having fun. Besides arrangements of Classical pieces, we also play a lot of old-time Jazz tunes.

Welcome and good luck...

Hi Lori!

Welcome to Piano World, and of course, welcome back at the piano! smile

Playing the piano is learning to create, playfully and deeply seriously, our own music in the world.

Welcome, Lori; glad to have you here!

A man must love a thing very much if he practices it without any hope of fame or money, but even practice it without any hope of doing it well. Such a man must love the toils of the work more than any other man can love the rewards of it.
