Hello All -- is it normal / usual for one but not both heating rods to be warm on a PLS system? Yesterday is the first time I noticed it -- at the moment the rod nearer the tail is activated/warm but not the other.

Assuming that the non-activated one is plugged in the same as the hot one, then it has failed and needs replacement. A rare occurrence, but not unheard of.

OK, thank you. I've alerted my tech, but I think he may be away on vacation, which is why I didn't ask him in the first instance. Do you know if it's OK/safe to leave the system running in the meanwhile? I assume that's better than nothing?

Yes, perfectly fine. You did check the connection at the plug...yes?

I'm kind of a mechanical idiot -- do you mean making sure that both rods are plugged in under the piano?

Thanks; it is. My tech replied and has ordered a replacement rod. Do you have any guesses as to how effective the system will be with just one rod operating?

What size piano is it ? For grands up to 5’9” one long heating bar is fine.

Oops I just saw that it’s a Yamaha 6’3”” S4 model so ideally 2 bars are better

Yeah, I suppose one is better than none. Noticeably the octave and a half a half above middle C has sharped slightly. A=about 440.8.
