Hello!
Purchased a used Yamaha C3 in the Nashville area about 9 months ago. It's about 20 years old. The dampers in the bass section aren't lifting simultaneously, but I've also noticed they have a slight twist to one side as they rise from the string. Any insight as to the cause of this?
Thanks!

They need regulating; simple as that! Easy enough job for your piano tech; I'd do it for a small additional fee during a tuning visit smile

Thanks for your quick reply! I'm actually having the damper timing regulated next week by a tech, but I was worried there was something else going on as well, since a twist seems like something is bent or shifted to one side. I'm pretty OCD about sound and well, lots of things, so I was just curious as to what's going on.
Thanks!

The twisting is easily sorted out by turning the damper wire in the holder using a pair of pliers. Usually done after sorting the timing, as timing adjustments may cause twisting! (That does depend on the damper action design though; it the action has capstans and spoons, adjustments won't have any effect on twist!) smile

Success will also depend on HOW LONG they have been in this condition. Felt likes to conform to its present circumstances and tends to resist change. It's a two-edged sword.
