Your efforts have done justice for the FP50!

I grew up a block from a small town PRR station ..... memories.

I recently traded for a DGX 670. It’s by far the most bang for the $$$ keyboard I’ve owned.

Most of my keyboards have been arrangers including Yamaha PSR models, a Korg arranger and a Roland RD 2000 stage piano. I also own a Yamaha Genos.

To me, the DGX 670 is more an arranger with piano functions than the other way around.

The 670 has many functions found in the $12k Clavinova.

Yamaha DGX-670

Seems like a decent upgrade.

Would love to give this slab some love but have had mine on pre-order since April without a word from my store. Ordered the white one, so my wait's gonna be a while.

Based on my reading and YouTube watching, I strongly agree with the assessment that the DGX670 is more of an arranger with piano functions than vice-versa. This demo is pretty darn good:

headphone jack has multiple functions; it CAN be a line out or headphone jack. There is a DSP functions that change output function.

This keyboard is still a USB 2.0. I couldn’t get a USB 3.0 to be recognized

I recently bought the DGX-670. When I use it with Yamaha HPH-150 headphones, it sounds like the best piano I've ever owned. I also use the USB audio feature for background instruments and it also sounds great while playing along. However, when I plug a 1/4" to XLR stereo cable from the piano to a QSC K10.2 powered speaker, the quality of the piano sound is diminished. The piano sounds hollow especially in the low to mid range keys. Also, the quality of the USB audio is diminished.

I read an earlier reply quoted above where I can specify the output as either "headphone" or "line out". Does anyone know how to do that? I don't see it in the manual. Also, I've read a lot of replies above as to whether or not good quality sound can be achieved through a powered speaker due to only one output for both headphone and line out. Has anyone connected a powered speaker to the DGX-670 and achieved good quality sound? If so, can you provide details?

You need to use stereo. It's a good thing and gives a spacial sound which when the two channels are mixed, doesn't give a decent mono.
If you got a good mono you'd get a lousy stereo.
The headphone output works well with any stereo stuff I've used even for live performances.
I had a DGX650., 630, 620.

OK, so instead of using a 1/4" to XLR stereo cable from the piano to one line input on the QSC K10.2 powered speaker, you recommend that I use a 1/4" to 1/4" y-cable and plug the two mono ends into two line inputs on the speaker. Is that correct?

No. You need two speakers positioned apart to give stereo. Your K10 won't do this alone.
Monitor speakers will.

OK, I will return the K10 speaker and get two Yamaha DBR10 or DBR12 speakers and see if that resolves the audio quality issue. Thanks.

Is this for stage use? Because those Yamaha speakers are ... well peter called them "big stuff". And they are.

This could become another case of the speakers outclassing the piano. smile

I plan to use the speakers for home use and for small gigs. If the DBR's are too powerful, what would you recommend?

Simple enough question, for which you may receive numerous and perhaps widely varying suggestions. While those have not yet started rolling in, you may at a minimum want to visit this recent thread -

https://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthre...akers-for-digital-piano.html#Post3146958

- where is mentioned your very question (effectively) has been often-asked prior.

Despite the apparent vagueness of the 670’s single output port for dual use, it seems it is some kind of stereo output that meets needs of use for both headphones or speakers/amps.

Unless im mistaken, which i reserve the right to be, starting with OP’s initial post, pretty much every link linked in this thread directly or indirectly leads to some body or thing selling them. While i thought this an unspoken given, ive slowly been drawn in to the capabilities of this new product, having started at “has it gotten due love?” and now finding that i believe it is worthy of love, possibly mine 😘 .... or any beginner to lower intermediate who has the wherewithal to realize they are not destined to be of the ilk of the next Rachmaninov and is therefore practical enough to accept the sub-par action on this 670 is nonetheless serviceable enough to get done the plentitude of jobs which Yamaha designed this DP to handle with full-featured albeit may-take-time-to-learn ease.

Peace & Love JoeT and all others.

And that's what I mean. You notice if someone cares about their instrument, or if it's just a sales pitch.

It's backordered for months with no delivery date. However for this type of instrument I prefer an unweighted action, which is easier to carry and easier to play, especially for organ-type patches.
