If you can afford some lessons at the beginning stage I would also highly recommend them.

Welcome aboard to this fun and crazy place. Now I feel I must ask. What is your pivot length wink

Hope you keep enjoying the ride.

Peace.

They were banned? .... and is 2weeks old news (i know, old news seemingly as oxymoronic as new olds... sigh) , seemingly never enough hours in a day to keep up with such things PW ..... but to answer the question best may require the requisite perspective of someone who knows their way around being banned and has survived and come back ...... anyone ? .... without being rude, impolite or trampling on somebody’s safety.... anyone? 😉 ..... now back to you OU812 😍

The forum mods do not disclose why a person is banned, or whether it is temporary or permanent.
My understanding from forum posts is that it is rarely based on one event.

I reported a few people on the forum. The mods told me to pound sand & toughen up.

It takes a lot to get banned here.

If you’re assuming it is Nevis, I don’t think so as the language of Nevis is English or Creole English. Bennevis stated many times that English was his fourth language.

I thought Bennevis named his handle after the mountain in Scotland? Much more multilingual over in the EU, but still...

Wonder if his ears are burning...

I hate to give this topic more oxygen. but yes, he claimed his handle was based on the mountain

It seems that Ben Nevis in Scotland is the highest mountain the United Kingdom.

Is it this widely informative thread as a whole or a select element of the many within thus far that you think or feel deserves suffocation?

The OP clearly indicated concern for some poster’s remorse for which they and many others 1) have probably grappled with themselves, 2) have provided both thoughtful or emotional response, some in support , others in opposition, some more overtly than others, some more towards serious others towards humorous, 3) for a concern / offense that so far appears to be as subjective as “ what’s the best action and sound within my budget/space/preferences requirements?”

The PW community is literally global and likes to talk, virtually, about seemingly endless topics that can or do spring from ground zero “piano talk”. Some are more thoughtful talkers, others more emotional, some maybe try to straddle the middle but the reality is, emotional thinking is far different than thoughtful intelligent thinking.....and many of us may unwittingly or willfully cross “the line” at times 😊

I am not replying to the general topic but to continued conversation about the one user that was being discussed. That is the only posts I have made in this thread. I have not made any general comments.

If you want my general opinion, this forum does not ban users for being opinionated, nor emotional. …

Okay, thank you dogperson.

Not long after joining PW, i regularly spent time reading the archives. Among the sea of posts to explore therein, i usually enjoyed the informative and candid value of Bennevis’ posts .... and was surprised to see that they apparently crossed that line sometime recently.

From my participation in the forums, and again I am not a moderator, PW will tolerate being emotional, but will not tolerate being repeatedly mean no matter how much information you have. There are not many members banned, and I know some of them were allowed to come back. It also looks like members are warned before being banned, but that is only the appearance from what is posted publicly from the moderators… as they will often post a warning to ‘cut it out’.

+1 to all of this. It takes literally all the self control I have to restrain myself from acting out my deep-seated resentment and loathing for each and every one of you here laugh

But at the risk of continuing the topic of one allegedly banned member, I think bennevis really fit that bill. He knew a lot, contributed a lot, but was very opinionated and on more than one occasion sparked a feud with other members about topics ranging from competitions, playing, piano pedagogy and certifications, etc. I'm sure to him he was just stating his opinion and correcting mistakes matter-of-factly, but to others it probably seemed a lot more antagonistic than that.

If your arguments frequently descend into polemics, it's just a matter of time before a mod says "enough is enough."

😊

There was a former establishment at the top of Ben Nevis called predictably, the Ben Nevis Hotel. It was a weather station and hotel combined possessing but four bedrooms. And if you stayed there with your g/f or whatever, you'd fall just over 800 feet short of the Mile High club. There's little left of it now.
Now this thread has suddenly become "informative" Yes? No? (shrug)
