Here goes a short tutorial. I hope this helps. Maybe it could become sticky to facilitate the access.

First, go to the PW's main page
[Linked Image]

Click on the Gallery link
[Linked Image]

Create a new thread. Give it a title and click on the Image Manager
[Linked Image]

Drag and drop the files to be added to the gallery (I use png, it must work with jpg and maybe other formats as well)
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

Click on done
[Linked Image]

Add some text to describe the gallery (it is mandatory to add some text) and post it.
[Linked Image]

Now, select the gallery you just created. Select the image you want to post (look at the small icons on the bottom).
[Linked Image]

Right click on the main image and select "Copy image link" (you may also open the link in a new tab or window and copy the image link off the URL bar.)
[Linked Image]

Now, paste the link you just copied to your new post.

[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

That's it.

PS: here is the link to the gallery I created to host this post's images:

It’s a good tutorial but there is already a link from the photo gallery

Yeah, I know. But it is a little outdated, as far as I remember. Besides, it is not very easy to find and it is in the Piano Forum. Also, making it sticky would facilitate things for users, IMHO.

Wow! All those steps!

On other (good) photo sites it comes down to:
- Drag your photo into the browser.
- Click OK or something similar.
- Copy the URL that you're given.
- Done.

I long ago gave up on the PW photo page. Too complicated.
And besides ... anything you put there is no longer yours. frown

Thank you EVC2017, i will give your instructions a try.

Having recently tried the PW instructions (2 choices for steps to follow) in the Gallery forum, i found some of the instruction screens a bit outdated compared to what actually happens/what you see, when following them today. I actually succeeded in getting images off my ipad and onto PW ... a minor miracle for me, but i got lost trying to find where the PW URL is so i can either bookmark or paste into a forum post.... we shall see.

Yes, there are websites that make this easier ..... call me pig headed or whatever, but i prefer to stay in house if i can get the routine down 🙂

Maybe a little more complex but not that much, IMO.

Except not always it is that simple. The URL provided does not link to the picture, you often need to find a button/link to embed the code and that is not always obvious (just look at how often these links are posted here and they do not work).

I suspect that is valid for several hosting services. I did not bother reading the licenses/terms because what I used these services for was not that valuable.

I agree with drewr above, I prefer using the in house hosting despite its issues. I used to use Photobucket long ago but they changed their service terms and direct links did not work for a while. They changed it later to add a watermark, but still. Often times you look at old posts in forums and links are broken.

Yes, Photobucket is no longer my choice. I use imgbb. And it does provide a direct link. I use it for all my posted images.

If you are a member of other fora and any one of those allows for image upload then a technique I have used in the past is simply to send myself a PM on such a forum with the picture attached. When you then view the message you should be able to get the URL of the picture as stored on their site then just put it in a normal [ img ] link here:

[Linked Image]

That is actually on a forum about programming AVR micrcontrollers ;-)

(Amelia is a 10 year old Bengal by the way).

The advantage of this is that you don't expose your picture collection to the outside world as happens using the image gallery here. Presumably the original intention of the picture gallery here was to simply post pictures of your pianos/setup ?

I do not gather the "do not expose" or "no longer yours". If one does not want that to occur with their media (photos, videos etc.), the only safe way is NOT putting it wherever in the Internet. At most, in a strongly encrypted strongly passworded container (VeraCrypt or the likes) in the cloud. Otherwise, once posted, it "belongs" to everyone, even if the hosting server does not hijack the copyright.

How to cut out all those PW steps . . . just use imgbb instead!

Sounds good to me. I'm off to seek it out!
