Usually I say, “they make it look easy.”
This time I’ll just say, “they obviously know what they’re doing!” thumb

And that's quite an upgrade for the girl: to a Steinway... L?

I thought much the same thing! My parents didn't buy me a Steinway grand at 10 years old...

I did a search about the girl and found this:

"As a child, she was featured in a documentary entitled The Piano Moves, which depicted the transport of a piano from an apartment on the 12th floor of a building"

12th floor! It looks like a 2nd in the video. Those movers had stamina.

Nice post, Ubu, thanks! Michaela Harel is the name of the featured little pianist playing Mozart's K545. I also found this link to her story:

Somehow I doubt that piano weighed 1200 pounds. Even a Steinway D is only 990 pounds.

Thank you, David Hoffman! This was great. It made me nostalgic. I remember New York , my home town where I was born and raised, in the 60's. Those movers were real professionals.

Thank you! An interesting look back at piano moving in that time. The one piano mover who said "you have to go to school to be a piano mover", reminded me of some movie star....? (perhaps he was an actor) A charming look back though to the late 60's in NY.

My piano's voice is my voice to God and the great unknown universe, and to those I love.
In other words a hymn. That is all, but that is enough. tre corda

I suspect not all piano movers moved pianos from upper stories without the use of a crane back then.

I'd like to know just exactly what they hitched their block and tackle to. Was it the metal frame of the apartment balcony above?
