Chickering & Sons Piano Technology As one of the most popular piano brands of the 19th century, Chickering & Sons was well known for the quality of their instruments and several key advancements to grand piano technology.
Chickering pianos were the preferred concert piano of its time until Steinway’s rise to prominence in the early 1900s.

As a means to promote their craftsmanship and piano quality, Chickering owned and operated a concert hall both in Boston and in New York city. In fact, Abraham Lincoln even brought several Chickering pianos into the White House to be played by the first family.

Chickering was one of the first piano companies in America and was the biggest producer of pianos in the country at one time. This is a vintage instrument in very good condition.

The furniture also looks beautiful.

When this piano was made, there were over 1800 companies making pianos in the U.S and Chickering was one of the most respected piano companies in the country. If you have ever played a great Chickering you know why these pianos are sought after – one of the greatest American pianos of all time.

Good luck with your sale. My Chickering Quarter has this exact case, though no cheekblocks on the keyboard. I have no serial number for mine, wondering if the case design was specific to years and if mine might have been built in 1917 too!

Jeanie, I've been curious about this particular piano as my student has a similar piano without any room for cheekblocks and am wondering if there was space for the una corda pedal to function. Does yours have working Una Corda or Sostenuto?

Thank you!
