Hello
I'm wondering if anyone on the forums has recently upgradad from Roland's
FP-30 to the 30X and can compare the mechanical action noise level
between the two models?
My new FP -30X seems to me noisier than my original fp-30 and I'm wondering if
something has changed in in the build quality?

Hello,

If I'm not mistaken, the FP-30 had the nice touch of red felt along the back of the keys, and the X doesn't have this anymore.

The FP-10 (which I use and has the same PHA-4 Standard) never had that felt detail. On hot sticky days, the keys move up with my fingers a tad above the normal plain of the keytops, making the whole playing experience rather noisier than on regular-weather days. I would assume the felt strip would to some extent prevent and/or muffle that behavior/sound.

Also, (internal) changes (if any) in the plastic casing between the non-X and X versions could change the way in which the 'pounding' at the keys is emphasized or muffled and so on.

These thoughts are just from the top of my head.

Cheers and happy playing,

HZ

Hi HZ .. they have dropped the red felt .. there is however black felt along the back.. and yes, I'm wondering if they've changed the type of padding on the internals where the "hammer" action impacts and drops back.. and the keys do seem somewhat slower than on the original fp-30.. though perhaps my fingers have gotten a bit quicker
I suppose I hopped to come across a roland tech who'd know what has changed, if anything, in the manufacture algorithm

Hello,

@netcom61, Nice to know that there actually still is felt, however black instead. Probably is the new fashion, I've seen black on other instruments as well.

I'm still aiming to add red felt to my FP-10, I already have some actual piano felt for it, but it resides veeery low on my waaay too long todo/wishful thinking list.

Cheers and happy playing,

HZ

PS I was in BC and AB in 1991, experiences that up to this day got deeply engraved in my soul. Hope to be back in some forseeable future.

PPS I'm not aware of any Roland tech people here on the forum...
