Hello

I hope some of you could help me. I am planning to get a piano in a couple of days. I have found two sellers showing me a Yamaha P120 and a Yamaha P115. I do know the Yamaha P120 was released almost 20 years ago, while the P115 was released a few years ago. From what I have seen the P120 has a good weight of keys, and various functions that come with the piano.

I'm just very concerned about the age of the Yamaha P120 altho this unit seems to be in very good condition and the P115 is advertised as a beginner piano with limited function(?) its also a bit more pricey.

My only question would be, which should I consider getting and should I be considered with the age of the piano?

Thanks to those who will help smile

The thread title mentions the P155, but your text says P115. I'll assume the latter.

The P120 was released in 2001. It's too old. I would not even consider it.

The P115 was released in 2015. I tend to shy away from any digital piano more than five years old. But at least this one is far less than "ancient".

If it's a P155, and it works, it was a better DP than the P120, when it came out. I sometimes regret not buying one.

The P115 is perfectly OK as a " beginner's piano". It should be OK until you get into late intermediate material, and if you're a beginner that will take several years.

Ah yes, my apologies, I meant the P115. smile

I was wondering if it would be better to just get a weighted MIDI keyboard instead since those are cheaper and I could connect it to my pc.

For I was on a tight budget when looking for a good piano option, initially I went along that same line of thought.

So I examined all weighted MIDI controller options and found, in the affordable price range that is, each and every one of them to have largely sub-par keyboards. To my surprise, even when I only needed piano keys and MIDI output, I discovered that the regular digital pianos provide far better, and comparably more affordable, options.

In my case, I settled for a Roland FP-10, which to my taste offers the best action for my budget and includes the use of triple sensors and has an excellent MIDI implementation.

Be sure to thoroughly try out any instrument you consider before buying it.

Cheers and happy decision making,

HZ

All I can say is the GH is a better action than the GHS. It was the case 15 years ago and it still is. Heavy and sturdy.
The P120 also sounds great... for a 2004 DP. I wouldn't be surprised a P115 or anything else would sound better (or not depending of the speakers, mostly)

the "newer" P120 is the P255 really
choice between a top of the line slab DP from 2004 and a cheaper DP of 2015...

Well the Yamaha P120 they were selling it at 440$ and the Yamaha P115 was selling at $500. (these are all second hand)
I could get a weighted Roland A-33 (MIDI Keyboard) for 280$ thats why I was considering this route.

Roland A-33 is only semi-weighted and only 76 keys. I had a one at some point in life, but don't remember much of it.

Definitely different from a hammer action keyboard.

Looks like I bought it in 2006 for 200 Euros, so 280$ in 2021 is a bit high.

I wonder if you wouldn’t be better off with a new Yamaha p71. $479. There’s also the p45 for $500. I got my p121 for $475 and have no regrets. Right now that deal seems impossible to find.

brand new P115 is 600$, how could it be 500$ after several years, without warranty, is beyond me
don't pay what the seller wants, pay what it actually worth
