Hello everyone! First of all, I am pretty new here so excuse me if I am not posting this where I should or if I'm braking any rules.

My girlfriend and I are both classical pianists and I thought I'd surprise her with some really nice edition of her favorite ever Concerto for our anniversary - Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto 1. But I am having some hard time finding just the thing I need. This is the link to the example of what I'm looking for:

https://www.henle.de/en/detail/?Title=Piano+Concerto+no.+1+e+minor+op.+11_419

I've got this Chopin edition (signed by one of my favorite pianists Rafal Blechacz btw!) of my favorite Concerto and I absolutely love it. I want something similar (quality wise) for my girlfriend but after many hours of Googling I've got nothing. It's so hard to find anything that's not 2nd or 3rd Rach.

So my question is: does anyone know some quality available edition of Rach 1 out there? It would be much appreciated!

Seems like you have at least 2 editions, one by Boosey and Hawkes and a cheaper one by Schirmer

Depending where you live, it may be cheaper to buy directly from Boosey. You can also potentially find some staff on Amazon.

I have found Fick’s music to be very helpful and knowledgeable. If you’re looking for something specific, email them and they will answer your questions/help you out. The link I provided goes to the search for the concerto. They have listed two editions, the Boosey & Hawkes as well as one by Jurgenson, but if you’re looking for a hard-to-find edition, they may be able to locate it for you. Good luck!

You also have an edition from Kalmus, but it would be a cheaper version vs the Boosey.

You also have to know that the piano transcription done by R has 3 versions. I believe the Boosey edition is the final 1919 version (to be checked). Jurgenson and Schirmerare publishing the second version of 1917. I dont know if the differences are significant or not.

I have a Schirmer final version with I think Rachmaninoff's 2nd piano transcription, no complaints. I've seen the Kalmus one in a store and I think it looks a touch better.

For what it's worth - for the sake of comparison:

I have the Édition A. Gutheil / Boosey & Hawkes and the Schirmer edition (vol. 1576) of the Rachmaninoff Second Piano Concerto and they are identical in every respect: page numbers, size/style of print, even the second piano part in both editions is in slightly smaller type. I would say that they are printed from the same plates. Would the Schirmer be a reprint of the Gutheil/B&H?

This is to suggest that the Schirmer may be as good an edition as any, except, perhaps for the most recent Rachmaninoff special edition.

Regards

Dover offers the first three concertos in full score in one volume.
