Pianolover, I just don’t see what you are trying to answer with this question, esp since, as you say, it has been addressed in many books. And, of course, my question was tongue in cheek.

In any case, I’ve responded to your question as I saw fit. Bill gave a lot to the jazz world. The origins and manifestation of that gift did not come from his personal pain just as Bird’s genius did not come from his heroin addiction. The Beatles and LSD, now that is another story.

I didn't say my question was addressed in many books, and in the one bio I read I don't think it was addressed either. I said the books about Evans indicated he was depressed at various times in his life and was a drug addict. My first post asked something different and far more specific.

The tone of your posts to me in this thread certainly didn't indicate your inappropriate question was tongue in cheek and the poster who agreed with my reply didn't think so either.

The real mega mystery here is the co-existence of profound mental/psychological suffering and pain along with profound world-altering genius and performance. Although I suppose we've seen that is history repeatedly; Van Gogh, for instance, etc..

Pianolover... tongue in cheek meaning I didn’t seriously ask or expect an answer. But, yes, dead serious in thinking comparing Evans’ posture to stroke victims in wheelchairs was disrespectful and irrelevant.

I never said they were stroke victims. For the second post in a row you don't even seem to be aware of what I said and make up whatever you want. Whether or not your question was tongue in cheek it was outrageously inappropriate.

Pianolover... You’re curious why Evans’ hangs his head like elderly people in wheelchairs who hang their heads while half asleep. Makes perfect sense.

It makes as much sense as continuing this thread makes.

Yes, it made enough sense that many people responded directly to my question without speculating on my motive for asking the question or whether my question was appropriate.
