Hello,

I have just got this instrument... upgrade from Casio LKS 250

On my casio there is a button called sustain and when I push it the keys ring or resonate for a while

Is there a way to create the same effect on the ES110?

I can sort of do it using the pedal and adjusting the damper resonance to small ...

You have bought yourself a nice piano, congratulations!

About the sustain, that is what the pedal is for to begin with. So I am not sure about the difference between the pedal and such a button, in other words what difference you're looking for?

Maybe with further clarification, some ES110 owners may be able to help you further?

Just place a brick on the pedal. 😉

"Real digital pianos" like the Kawai don't have a sustain hold function.

If generic on/off sustain pedals work with it then in theory a latching pedal like the ones guitarists sometimes use to control effect units could work as a sustain hold pedal.

But that's not how you play the piano. (If there really are any rules...)

I believe the ES110 also has a reverb effect.

Hahahahaha. Yea that actually will work 100% but be careful not to get it stuck.

Coming back to the sustain question...

I am trying to play Bach - Prelude in C Major ... and it says you shouldn't pedal but on the casio it had like a sustain effect which I really liked.

When I look on youtube:
I see it played (quite quickly) without any pedal on an acoustic piano it sounds very harsh and short...
but then you can find other recordings like

Bach's prelude in C Major where the notes ring a little bit longer ... which is what I like...

If I just keep my foot on the pedal it's overkill and starts to sound very messy...

Anyone know how I can get my ES110 to sound more like the piano in the second rendering?

Couple things you can try.

In the video you linked, notice he's holding down the notes on the left hand.

You can also do half pedaling, although I'm not sure if the stock es110 pedal has that function, but I know they sell a pedal that has half pedaling.

Half pedaling gives you a shorter sustain.

Finally you can just learn to use regular full pedal. It goes down, as soon as the sound begins to sound messy/ garbled, You pull it back right before it gets to that point, and repeat.

You're just playing with it, until it sounds right to you.

Hold the left hand notes, that’s all he does in the 2nd video. I’ve played this piece probably 1000 times at every tempo and every articulation possible. I started playing it by memory in the 1960’s.
If pedaling is desired, then re-pedal every 2 beats (twice per measure). In other words, re-pedal for each chord harmony.
The ES110 also does half-pedals. It’s a great digital piano.

Thanks rintin and einludov... currently just pushing it down very lightly and sounds okish - I'll concentrate on the white keys for now but will keep on experimenting with the pedal...

Yes, the ES-110 has a beautiful pedal included, a much better offering in this regard than any other slab piano in this price bracket.

This pedal has an optical sensor and additional circuitry inside it, so I'd certainly discourage anyone to fiddle with its wiring, added switches and so on--and most certainly not that alu foil thingy 🤕 🙄.
