Hi Friends
Has anyone ever serviced a Korg SP170S? I am trying to service one that was dropped and I believe the volume control was damage and I am going to replace it. Unfortunately, this model seems to have the control panel (which has only the volume control and 2 buttons on it) sandwiched in between the front panel and the top of the clamshell case. I have removed all screws but this circuit board looks to be either glued in or so kind of tape is holding it in....It is a horrible design, but there must be a way of removing this circuit board. The service manual does not show how to do this. Can any of your techs out there help me out here??

Thanks!

I can't possibly help with that, but for a better look into the issue, I'd say a video can be very useful.

Pianoteq + Korg C1.

I shall be "thankful" for this decent alternative to an upright piano. Hallelujah.

Thank you for your response. I will try and do a short vid for you, although if you ever worked on a SP170S you would know my dilemma. I can't figure out why Korg would use screws to hold the front panel on, but it won't budge when the screws are out......would they use adhesive along with 6 screws to hold a front panel on?
Should I post the video link here for you?
Thanks
Michael

Yeah post the video link here and very likely somebody other than me could provide guidance for you.

My wild guess would be that some stubborn pins might be holding it up and you might just need to fiddle with it carefully.

I can't remember, but I should remove all the black screws on the panel, remove the panel, pull out the connector, and remove all the silver screws on the board.

If the symptom is not one channel, the DAC is broken.
This model has many DAC defects.

good luck.

I just got mine, so I won't be opening it any time soon... But when I do, I'll try to upgrade it to 1/4 jacks, smile
