what are your opinions about this piece? positive or negative, I don't mind, just being curious.

allright, that's one plus. Let's wait a little and find out what the others think. I didn't vent my opinion yet.

As a fun virtuosic piece guaranteed to raise the roof if played well (and accurately), I'm somewhat mystified as to why it's not performed as often as, say, Mephisto Waltz No.1.

"I don't play accurately - anyone can play accurately - but I play with wonderful expression. As far as the piano is concerned, sentiment is my forte. I keep science for Life."

that's 2 plus, I'm not surprised, surprised as I am by indeed the lack of podium-presence of this piece.

I love it! Lazar Berman's 1960s recording is hair-raising!

I used to think it was a trashy piece until I heard Berman's performance than I really liked it.

It is a good very virtuosic piece .... that said I find it a bit emply at time and overall rather inconsistent. Interesting to know that Liszt borrowed the second theme (the Jota) from Glinka, as he also copied elsewhere Glinka usage of octatonic scale.

The first time I ever listened to it in its entirety was 2 weeks ago. Which is embarrassing to admit, since I love Liszt.

I have been listening to the Stephen Hough recording on loop. Of the 10 or so others that I listened to, I like his sense of freedom the most. It's absolutely exhilarating.

I want to play it, and probably sometime in the near future, I will.

And I like it more than the 1st Mephisto waltz (as someone already mentioned it in an earlier comment)

Nikolay Khozyainov plays it well...if not quite up to Berman's level. I heard him play it in concert a few years ago...wow.

I might like it more had I the patience to sit through a performance of it.

It is a barn burner that doesn't overstay its welcome or become too virtuosic for its own good.

One of my favorite pieces by Liszt! I am actually considering learning it if I have the time..

Simplicity is the final achievement. After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art. --Fryderyk Chopin

Love it, played it in college. Lots of folia so it's easy to follow, but enough variety to keep me interested. I heard it unexpectedly the other day and hearing it made me really happy.
