I found a craigslist post selling a 1957 Baldwin Model R for $1500. It is mahogany. Is this a good price?

It depends on condition. If it's all original and needing work, that sounds about right. If it's in relatively good condition, that might be a good deal. You should have it inspected by a competent technician to figure that distinction out.

Agreed.

Bear in mind that it has exceeded its design lifespan by about 50%. So, doubtlessly it needs some attention. But pointed out, there are possible hidden pitfalls that a competent tech would be needed to determine.

The quality of that era of Baldwins was high. If it is well preserved, it could be a great value.
Have an independent technician evaluate it.
