Hi everyone,
Just sharing in case someone might be interested. The Queen Elisabeth Piano competition 2021 just started this past Monday and it is being broadcasted online (with video on demand). Here the link. First rounds are underway until Saturday.
There are some interesting repertoire options for the first round (Etudes by Dusapin, Ligeti, Mantovani, Messiaen, Ohana or Rautavaara, and also from Bartok, Stravinsky, and Prokofiev, which I have never listened to).
Cheers smile

I noticed many of the contestants are playing the Chris Maene grand. Does that seem surprising in the sense that I'd assume many of them would have little prior experience on that piano?

I like when they show the overhead camera. Much better than seeing their grimaces.

Ahh, great! I'm just coming off the "Grand Piano Competition" with all the teens. It's nice to hear adults again.

20-25 minutes of programs like this really is a great way to get an idea of a pianist. You learn if they can engage with their pieces from the beginning or whether they have to "warm", you learn if they can connect with different styles, you see the gears turning with program choice, and it's for me just enough time to get acquainted with the personality without feeling like I'm stuck in a conversation I can't get out of. I'm really enjoying this so far.
